How to take care of the skin in summer: external and internal care

skin care in summer

Skin care is very important to improve your appearance and health. And especially during the summer months, we must take care of our skin on a daily basis.

The skin is the largest organ in the body and is very sensitive to sunlight and heat. For this reason, we should pay more attention to our health in summer. High temperatures can lead to dehydration of the body, which in turn can lead to dehydration of the skin. Body sweating due to heat and excess water can also lead to infections (foot rot) and inflammation of the skin (especially in wrinkled areas). There are also the effects of ultraviolet light from prolonged exposure to sunlight.

This not only increases the risk of skin cancer (melanoma), but also accelerates the aging of the skin, causing it to lose its elasticity and wrinkle. Poorly cared for skin loses its moisturizing factor in the short term, which prevents the cells from drying out in depth, causing dryness, roughness, peeling and cracking.

external skin care

1. Moisturize the skin daily

Shower and moisturize (2 liters a day) to prevent the skin from drying out. However, it is advisable to apply an additional moisturizer after showering, when sunbathing and before going to bed. Do not forget to moisturize sensitive areas such as heels, elbows and knees.

2. Use sunscreen daily

During the summer months, sun protection should become a daily habit. Apply a high-factor sunscreen every morning before you leave home. Keep a small container of SPF50 plus or similar in your bag or backpack in case you need to reapply during the day. This is especially important if you are going to be in direct sunlight for more than 80 minutes.

3. Avoid sunbathing during the day.

As you already know, the harmful rays of the sun reach the skin mainly during the day (12-16 hours). Therefore, in addition to using a sunscreen with a high SPF (Sun Protection Factor), it is advisable to avoid direct exposure to the sun during this period whenever possible .

The AEDV (Spanish Association of Dermatology and Venereology) recommends the use of a sunscreen with a high SPF value in addition to a sunscreen. This means that the skin must be protected from both UVA and UVB: UVA attacks the first layer of the skin, while UVB penetrates all three layers.

4. Inner skin care

It is important to remember that the health of the skin is not only affected by its external appearance, but also by internal factors such as diet.

5. Drink two liters of water a day.

Drinking two liters of water a day will help you clear your face and prevent oily skin, cellulite, acne and blemishes, which can also oxidize the body. This is very important.

6. Eat healthy food

Some foods can also help you have beautiful skin. Fresh fruits and vegetables are an essential part of the summer diet. Regular consumption of these foods will keep your body hydrated and will have a positive effect on your skin.
